VISITED STATES

create your own visited states map

I've always wanted to visit Boston, so it's a bit of a sore point that Massachusetts isn't on there.  I feel like West Virginia and Kansas are big gaps now, I have to go visit!  Next big trip is to the Greater Northwest -- anyone want to join me? ;)

This meme already went around long before your live journal time. I believe that I was the winner, with 34 states visited, but your map looks pretty close to that. refmansbn was also close, with 30 states visited.

You posted this on 3/13/04, and my first entry was May 1. I wouldn't say 2 months is long before my LJ time. :)

I have 35, if you subtract 16 (the gray states) from the total of 51 (includes DC). I counted seventeen gray states on yours, so I think I'm the new leader!

Re: Going around

The problem with my list is that I'm not sure about a couple of states. When I was in middle school, my family and I drove to California and back, and I'm not sure about the actual route taken. So, I could have easily visited: Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Mississippi, Wisconsin, Nebraska, or Minnesota. I'm just not sure. Plus, there is also a good chance that I've been to Delaware and/or New Jersey. Maybe I'll ask my dad the next time I see him, to see if he remembers our route better...

Re: jedibuttercup's question

Wow. I thought I was doing OK, compared to some of the kids I went to high school with - the town in Oregon my parents moved to is about as WASP as they come, with a population under 15,000, and a lot of them have never gone any further from home than the capitol or Portland to visit the malls. My list is still pretty darned small compared to yours, though. =)

Re: jedibuttercup's question

It helps to have relatives scattered all over the place. Here's the current breakdown:
Mom's siblings -- California, New York state, Florida
Dad's siblings -- Texas, Wisconsin, Arizona

Of course, people have moved over time, so it's been even more places! Not to mention cousins and such. I don't even know some of my first cousins that well, and have spent time with extended family less than half a dozen times. I think that's one reason I have a lot of family pics on my website; I try to hold on to the few memories I do have!

You can hit the Greater Northwest with me! Bring Matt along, I'm sure he'd enjoy it. ;)
