Jazz Hands

Watching the "jazz" dances on SYTYCD has been interesting.  What is it about this style that inspires the choreographers to think about birds?!  I had the distinct feeling that Jessi & Pasha (Video 1, dancing starts at :50) would be in the bottom three that week, despite how good they were, because most Americans don't give a crap about that singularly American art form.  Ironic, isn't it?  I thought Jaimie & Hok's routine (Video 2, starts at 2:55) was bizarre at first, to say the least, but danged if I didn't go back and watch my tape of it another half dozen times since then.  It really does have a strange ethereal beauty to it and I've grown to really like it.  I hope they won't end up in the bottom 3 tonight, I have a feeling they will be safe.  My only real complaint when comparing them: the first routine is actually jazz.  How does the second one fall into that category?  I would have labeled it "contemporary" if I was seeing it without the intro.  I'm highly tempted to get the Memoirs of a Geisha soundtrack now...

Ironically, the one week I bothered to call, half my couple (Jesus) got eliminated...

Half

Same here! I actually voted for the first time myself last week, and I was focusing on various couples that I thought would be in danger. I had the distinct feeling that, despite getting low votes in previous weeks, the judges' harsh statements and the emotions leading up to Debbie Allen giving him a scholarship meant that Cedric would be safe. So, I was voting for Pasha, Jaimie & Hok, and Sara & Jesús. I knew that people wouldn't be turned on by the "angry" vibe of the krumping routine, unfortunately.

I probably would have gotten rid of Neil, but I think the judges were in a tough spot there and it could have gone either way. I thought Sara was the only girl who "brought it" in the 30 seconds, I thought she did a great job. I am really irritated about them letting go of Jessi, I think she has danced really well every week and you know she would have been safe if she had danced that routine with Pasha. As Nigel noted, Lauren's routine just wasn't good and she's been very "hit or miss" throughout. I absolutely would have gotten rid of her, I wonder if some favortism from them working with them last year came into play then. Argh, it still ticks me off!!!

hmmm...I am starting to think I should watch this show. Those videos were pretty cool. Also, that is a good question...jazz and birds? What's with that?

I like hawk. ^_^

Hee, hee! Yeah, it is a good show! (Despite the occasional rage I feel when I feel the voters and/or judges make a bad call.) But yeah, it's worth checking out. :)

Bah, the second one was NOT jazz! The dancing wasn't bad but that just was not jazz.
