Slang For Morons

I find that I get rather irritated when slang becomes a barrier to communication, i.e. "bad = good."  Even being able to freely exchange "That's very cool!" for "That's hot!" rubs me the wrong way.  I will pick on SYTYCD as an example because I have been watching it lately.  Twice thus far in the current season, a judge has commented on a routine by saying, "That was ridiculous... in a good way."  Instead of trying to take a shortcut and then take another moment to explain himself, why doesn't he just say it was ridiculously good?  Another thing that gets me is something Shane said in the video I posted the other day about a routine being the "sickest" thing he's seen in a long time.  It's diseased, it's on the verge of killing him because it makes him feel so ill?  No, this means it's fantastic.  Don't get me wrong, I like and use slang as much as the next person, but it starts to get on my nerves when it gets blatantly counterintutive.  This is not clever, this is stupid.  Along these lines, it took me a long time to use "LOL" and "ROFL" before I finally started using them liberally in writing.  When I figured even my parents would know what those initialisms stood for, I started using them more regularly.  Unless I am responding specifically to someone else's comment or message in which they use it, I refuse to type "pwned" in anything.  Yeah, yeah -- someone accidently typed a "P" instead of an "O" in a sentence somewhere once.  Hilarious!  Not.

What was not stupid on SYTYCD were many of the dance routines last night.  Good show, good show! *polite clapping*  I taped Last Comic Standing, so I am looking forward to seeing that as well.  I wish the visual quality would be a little higher on this, but here's one of the more memorable routines from SYTYCD last night: [different version as of 06/18/07]
