Age of Civilization

Not too much to report, but I haven't been on here for a while so I thought I'd log in and check things out.  I logged in briefly yesterday to post something to the ftwaynefencers community; I was finally feeling well enough to go to fencing last night after missing three weeks in a row.  Just nice to have a pretty "normal" day and do some things I enjoy, you know?  Speaking of fencing, I sent some equipment back to Blade Fencing due to sizing issues and such.  I'm still on the fence about a couple pieces, but I do like the jacket and I think I'll get used to the other stuff in time.  We are supposed to do a sabre demo at Canterbury High School early on Monday morning, hopefully that will go well.  And I finally officially have my "E" rating in epee since the guys from Rose-Hulman eventually got around to sending their tournament info into the USFA.  Hooray!

I feel pretty dumb because not only did I recently spend a good chunk of money on that fencing equipment, but I spent way more at Target than I intended to last night.  squealnakedcatj has been saying we need to play Civ IV online with silentknight & psychogryphon sometime, which sounds like fun.  So, I stopped by the store last night after fencing because I thought it might be wise to pick up a microphone/earpiece combo I could plug into my phone and that way we could chat more easily while we play.  I saw something appropriate and picked that up, along with some hangars.  Not bad, right?  Except I saw seasons 7 & 8 of The Simpsons on sale for $20 apiece.  And Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Special Edition for 10 bucks.  And Age of Empires IIIAND its expansion pack. *facepalm*  How did a phone mic and some hangars add up to all that?  On top of all this, my window for finding health insurance is closely rapidly and I'll have to start picking up the tab for some kind of coverage by the first of June.  Looks like I'll have to get a job to pay for all of it, huh?  Speaking of which...

The biggest news of late is that I had an interview with Tri-State University last week, which is about 45 minutes north in Angola.  The opening is for the Circulation/ILL Librarian (what's that, an actual MLS position?!) and I think I'd be pretty good at it.  I did a lot of circ work at USF and have done interlibrary loans through Parkview, so I have practical experience on both sides.  Of course, one of the drawbacks to academia is that they are going to do some more interviews and then have some candidates meet with the VP of Academic Affairs and the head of HR before making final decisions, so the director thinks it's going to be at least mid-June (probably later) before they make the final selection.  So, we shall see.  One way or another, I seriously need money. *sigh*

Good luck on your interview! (.and for the record, I LOVE spending too much $ at target!) ;)

Interview

Indeed! I guess I didn't make it real clear above, but I did the interview and they hope to get back to all the candidates by the end of June. That's academia for you (*sigh*). I think it went pretty well, but it can be hard to tell on these things. If I make it to the next step, they want people to interview with the VP of Academic Affairs and the director of HR. From there, it's whittling down to the supposedly best person for the job! So, we'll see what happens. *crosses fingers*

OOooooOOoOoOOoOOOOOOoo an interview! I hope it went well and that you get the job (if you want it that is ;) ).

So, Target.. you bought all that stuff... but did you buy Civ IV since that's what prompted you to even go (or so that sentence led me to believe)? If you did, then we need to play!!

OOooooOOoOoOOoOOOOOOoo

Ah, you must not have read my website recently or you would have seen this a couple months ago: squealnakedcatj got me a copy of Civ IV for Christmas! I'd love to play, we'll have to figure out a good time to do so. I think the interview went well overall, we'll see what happens! *crosses fingers*

Academic positions always take forever to hire :-(

I have the same problem when I go to Target :-)

Age of Endless Empires

[Comment by squealnakedcatj that got erased -- SPK]

Congrats again on attaining your E rating. T'was nice of RH to get that info submitted.

Sorry to hear you blew your wad at Target, especially, in part, on the Age of Empires sequel that will surely directly compete for your strategy game time attention with Civ IV. Nevertheless, I hope you will one day have interest to engage in some net play and I recognize that your headset/mic purchase is a step in that exact direction. Likewise, I have ordered Nightfire and should be receiving it this week. Once I do, Nate and I will surely be "hittin' that." Hopefully, you can join us. I know we've discussed the subject, but I don't remember whether you have the game and are ready or just have a potential interest or what.

Thanks for the update on the TSU job op. Nothing new to me that we didn't already discuss, but keep us all posted, since we're all routing for you. I'll do the same on my own journal ;)

Re: Age of Endless Empires

I have not picked up a copy of Nightfire yet, that's actually what I was looking for when I stumbled across AE3. I still haven't opened that yet because I don't want to get distracted from Civ IV just yet! Hopefully, I'll be able to pick up a copy of Nightfire soon and we can get in some good old-fashioned Bondage. :P

That last part sounds wrong ;)

And, why'd you erase his message in the first place??!

Re: Age of Endless Empires

I didn't say I erased it, I said it got erased. *frowns* And yes, Bondage is our vaguely disturbing term we use when discussing our favorite mutual pastime: the 007 video games! Whee!!!
