Life in front of The Almighty Box

Once upon a time, I wouldn't have missed a milestone like The Simpsons 400th episode for anything.  I still taped it and did enjoy it (more than I expected, in fact), but it can't be denied that it just isn't the same.  The funny thing is that I am still interested in collecting the DVD sets, I bought the fifth season fairly recently.  I think I will only go up through season 10 or so, though.  It's still a good deal better than a lot of stuff out there nowadays, but I wish it wasn't going on for another 4 years.  I give ABC and the writers of Lost credit for working together and compromising in order to maximize the series and still give it a graceful exit by 2010 before it gets too cumbersome and overextended.  Speaking of which, American Idol seriously needs to pick up its game next year.  I haven't watched for about 6 weeks now because I got so bored with it.  I was hoping some people would "step up" in the seminfinals, but once it got to the Top 12, my interest peetered out.  The judges are getting tiresome, too. *shrug*

You know how the title of the show Grey's Anatomy is a sly medical reference, a nod to the old medical textbook?  They have a spin-off now that they will be calling Private Practice, revolving around the character of Dr. Addison Montgomery.  I really wish they had done that name thing again and called it Addison's Disease instead.  Heh.  Oh, and that surfer dude in the pseudo-pilot wasn't all that good-looking in my opinion.  McDreamy and McSteamy would kick his sorry ass all over that private practice.  Holy crap, I think I just briefly became gay. *shakes head*  Also in "girly mode," I watched Desperate Housewives on Sunday and was pleased to see Bree (Marcia Cross) back in action.  I totally laughed out loud when Carlos was looking for money to pay the paperboy, finds Edie's birth control pills in her purse, holds them up to study them for a moment, and the kid goes, "I'm gonna need cash." *ROFL*

The Office season finale was very cute, though I actually like the character of Karen and don't want to see her get hurt.  What was up with the CFO promoting Ryan before her, by the way?  Very odd.  And, of course, Scrubs was great as usual.  You know a show is well-rounded and has really talented actors when the main character is your least favorite -- JD has gotten quite annoying in the last year or so, I'm getting a little sick of his childishness at this point.  I think the characters of JD (on Scrubs) and Homer (on The Simpsons) have both become predictable caricatures who never change and who have lost their originality to a large extent.  I am hoping the fact that JD will become a father next year will bring a little more depth to that character, I'd really like to see the show rejuvenated that way.  The local ABC affiliate airs older episodes late night after Conan, which I occasionally watch, and they still crack me up!  I kind of hope they will have a boxed version of the series when it ends, I am pretty sure I would get that.  Heroes rocked, too, but I must say I don't understand why Peter lost control of his nuclear power then.  Did it have something to do with absorbing Nikki's ability right before it happened?  Or did Sylar somehow I mess up his control?  I hope they will touch on that next season, that was the only thing that made me frown.

Hopefully, there will be some decent shows on this summer.  I always enjoy Last Comic Standing, hopefully there will be some other good stuff in there.  I am disappointed that Andy Barker, P.I. and Studio 60, among others, won't be back.  Maybe the summer will allow some good shows some time to develop an audience and make a lasting impression.  After all, do we really need another season of the zero success rate bestowed upon the world by The Bachelor?

I'd have to agree with your thoughts on JD from scrubs. It will be interesting to see how being a father affects the character.

And I thought giving the job to the temp was awesome, but I had no attachment to Karen.

With all the show over now, either permanently or for the season, I have no idea what I am going to do all summer.

Heh. Yeah, I felt a little lost last night without "Heroes" on and only a repeat of HIMYM. Guess we'll just have to get out and enjoy that sunshine! :P

I am quite disappointed in the proposed schedules for next fall. At least I'll still have Heroes and How I Met Your Mother.

Also, this goes with your previous post but I put it here anyway:

How I Met Your Mother

Did you hear they are moving HIMYM to 9:30 in the near future? I feel like they are shunting it off to a less-desirable time slot, but I guess that's far preferable to the show getting cancelled altogether!

Heh. STAR WARS cakes rule. My mom made a couple for me over the years, I'll have to see if I can track down pictures.
