Annuit Coeptis

Well, it's a watershed event today -- this was my last day as a Parkview employee!  I got there at 9:15 AM and stayed until close, just trying to wrap some things up and enjoy my final hours in the library.  It's been a great experience overall.  Some folks may recall that I spent several months in Indy unemployed and becoming increasingly discouraged after I got my degree.  I finally moved back up to Ft Wayne to be closer to my family and to see what I could do, and ended up being hired there within a month or so!  Julie was hired on as the manager just a couple weeks before she interviewed me, so we both were new and excited about trying different things within the library.  We get along splendidly and she allowed me to try various things, always considering me a colleague rather than "hired help."  I am very pleased that I will start working full-time at the University of St. Francis as "Librarian Assistant" in the brand-new Vann Library this week, and I am excited about the opportunities there.  Nonetheless, I am saddened at leaving my familiar haunts at the hospital and I also feel some concern about whether Julie will be OK.  A lady named Krista starts working there on October 2 and should be able to help shoulder the burden, but it will be an adjustment to go from having two people with the MLS to just herself.  Still, I am confident that she will continue to do great work and I am sure we will hang out again soon.  We went to lunch at the Acme this afternoon and had a fantastic time, so I suggested we do something like that once a month or so and she thought that was a wonderful idea!  She said she will miss my hard work, my sense of humor, and that brain of mine. *sniff, sniff*  She's so cool, she's been very supportive and we've always gotten along really well.  I feel really blessed to have had her as a supervisor and I have no doubt that we will remain friends for a long, long time.

By the way, I spent some time in the hospital over the weekend -- as a patient, not as a librarian.  Unfortunately, I was having abdominal pains from Tuesday (Sept 12) onward.  The feeling would ebb and flow, but I was experiencing a good deal of pain and nausea.  Plus, it was starting to have a significantly negative effect on my sleeping later in the week.  I tried to tough it out, but had to call into work on Friday.  I finally said the heck with it and forced myself to go into Parkview on Sunday afternoon (Sept 17).  As I suspected, they couldn't do much!  However, the physician's assistant did prescribe Darvocet and it seemed to help me sleep through the night.  I've been doing much better this week, thank the Lord.  Still an occasional bit of stomach tension and/or nausea, but it hasn't been an all-consuming problem like last week.  Hopefully, it will continue to stay under control and not flare up into anything more serious!  So, the health situation seems to be better and I am starting a new job in a new library -- things are looking good.  Yay! *thumbs up*

*thumbs up back at you*

It's always cool when you get along with your boss as though they were just a co-worker. Getting together once a month sounds like a great way to keep in touch. I'm so happy for you. Glad to hear good new from you. :)
