Drama which fascinates librarians and other geeks

Stephen Colbert Causes Chaos on Wikipedia, Gets Blocked from Site

Don't kill Harry Potter, authors urge Rowling

I have added some more friends on MySpace, which is cool.  A few disappointments with some people who looked interesting, but you can't force anybody to be your "friend" or add you back!  Alas.  Overwhelmingly, it has been a positive experience and I am having some interaction with a few potentially cool folks.  I must say once again that I am glad I started my blogging experience on LJ.  I don't know who it was at IUPUI that first latched onto it and got others in the SLIS program involved, but kudos to him/her.  MySpace was demonstrating yesterday and the day before just how assy it can be sometimes, even today it logged me out for no good reason!  Even when something goes wrong with LJ, which has been pretty rare, at least they have a status page so you can check things out!  It doesn't seem like people respond to blog comments on there either.  Another issue is that LJ is pretty dial-up-friendly, whereas you really have to have highspeed to make the most of mySpace.  There's so much junk going on on a lot of pages that it often takes forever just to see one profile in its entirety.  Oy, I've gotten spoiled over here on LJ. *grumbling fades into distance*

Unfortunately, living_in_books recently got into a huge fight with a close friend and she was talking about it on her journal.  She half-jokingly said she was "accepting applications for new best friends," so I left a comment to cheer her up a little.  Maybe I should put this on MySpace:
NAME: Steve K.
AGE: 29
GENDER: Male
EDUCATION: Post-graduate
QUALITIES:
Steve is a good buddy, he is loyal and tries not to take people for granted. Steve is sensitive without being overly needy. Steve can tell jokes and is willing to make a fool of himself to cheer up a friend, like by shouting random phrases such as "Ay Caramba!" and "Word to your mother!" in crowded areas. Steve is devilishly handsome and pleasant to be around, his personal hygiene is exceptional. Steve will be willing to develop new skills if accepted to this position, including juggling and/or magic tricks. Inquire further now! :)

MySpace

Glad you're getting some friends at a variety of places online...I'd haev to agree with your assessment of MySpace's pages...loaded with "so much junk"! Personally, I'm staying as far away from them as I can, although librarygal's gotten addicted. But hey, as long as you're not one of the million+ users that got infected with that virus (worm, technically) spread via the Flash banners on MySpace recently...

Anyway, I'll have to see what the best service is for finding Computer & Information Technology majors at IUPUI, where I'm starting this month. Could prove a good way to keep in contact with friends from classes, much as you mention LJ did for SLIS students.

Re: MySpace

Also, thanks for the pointer to the Colbert article...I posted about it myself on my blog.

Re: MySpace

Ha! That's funny, glad it was blogworthy elsewhere. Thankfully, I seem to have missed the fun that was the Flash worm on MySpace. Looks like my brother and some others got it, unfortunately. Guess they'll get it all fixed eventually!

We happened to be watching the Colbert (er, wait a sec, the Coleberrrrrrr ;) report last night when he unleashed his "vandalism". I thought it was pretty cool and wished that my students were watching. (They tend to believe that if it's on the web, it MUST BE TRUE!)

My predictions:

1. Arthur Weasley (just a feeling I have)

2. Voldemort, once and for all.

You heard it here first!

Re: My predictions:

I just noticed that you consider yourself a Ravenclaw, too. *high-five* Your avvie is much cooler than mine, though. :) Is there somewhere I could get that avvie or something similar?

Re: My predictions:

Yeah, I've taken a couple quizzes that tell me I'm a Ravenclaw. *returns high five* I used to have a LJ friend called krycek_chick, and I saw one of her friends use this icon in a comment on her LJ. I snurched it to use myself since her friend with the icon was not attached to me in any way, but I later found out that krycek_chick had made it herself for said friend! She said it was cool if I wanted to use it, though. I always try to include credits if at all possible, so look there if you want to see where I found something. krycek_chick and I later parted ways, so I'm not sure where you could go find a good one. I suppose you could always ask her! :)

Colbert... :)

That's awesome!! I love it when people harmlessly mess with "the man" or the mainstream. :)

procrastinating

LJ is so simple and easy to navigate but MySpace wastes more time beacuse it takes forever to do aything. It is better for procrastinating. :D
