MySpace

I was exhausted after work and slept for a couple hours this afternoon, but of course now I can't sleep at all.  So, I decided to come downstairs and fool around on the computer.  I finally gave in and signed up for a MySpace account -- can anyone possibly guess the username? :P  I did come across a few people from high school and even from Bethlehem in NJ, so that was kinda cool.  Hopefully, I'll be able to get in touch with some more people who don't necessarily run in LJ circles!

Also, this is one of my favorite things ever:
I don't think it's any secret that I think Michael Jackson is a freak.  So, I laughed quite hardily the first time I saw this advertisement.

I love that evil is personified by the devil and a Michael Jackson caricature!  That is fantastic. *LOL*

If you have a MySpace account and I missed it, please let me know! :)

That devil probably does wear Prada...

I was just talking with my cousin Sarah - she was prodding me to get a MySpace account. I told her that many people could attest to my lack of upkeep on LJ, so she could imagine how often I would update it I had to do it twice. psychogryphon and squealnakedcatj (whom Sarah claims never calls and has fallen off the face of the earth) should call her and tell her to get a LJ account. Maybe that would sway her.

There you go. I told living_in_books that this may be a way to get people to sign up on LJ, I can preach the marvelousness of it on MySpace! By the way, I signed up as a friend to yourmamachula's blog and see that leah_leanna has a MySpace acct as well. It's spreading like wildfire, apparently. :)

Question

Is it easier to find people you know on MySpace than on LJ? I keep hearing people say that as soon as they signed up for MySpace, tons of old high school friends found them. I can't recall seeing an easy way to search LJ for people you know (unless that is a paid account option...).

I did not know that. I wonder if she updates that more often than LJ...

Yup, you recall correctly. As far as I can tell, there aren't any special search options for paid users either. The problem is that LJ is a little too clever for its own good in regards to privacy. You can search by e-mail or an instant messenger name, but not by just a person's regular name like you can in MySpace. On the one hand, it might be good for a few individuals that people can't just look their name up in a phone book and identify their journal. However, those "tons of old high school friends" may not have your e-mail or anything else current for the last 10 years. It's probably hurt LJ somewhat because I used first & last name on MySpace to find a few people myself. I guess that's just something they feel strongly about and I'm sure they know both the pros and cons. It's unfortunate because I really do feel that LJ is far superior. Oh, well!

Alpha and omega

The whole privacy thing is super awesome with LJ. What we could do, as you have already hinted at, is go to MySpace, find people (and have people find us), then tell the to go to LJ... Let's round up the troops and start a revolution!!! :)

The Devil wears Prada and Andrew wears poop!

Gah! So many things: You (and Kim?) talk with Sarah with any regularity? She has specifically mentioned that I don't keep in touch as much as she'd like!? Sheesh, I'm flattered to know I've been genuinely missed. (I doubt Paul's having such thoughts, e.g.) I guess I need some high-fiber for my phone, email, IM or blog diets.

*considers the MySpace account, notices living_in_books giving him the evil eye, ducks behind overturned porridge cart and considers further*

Stinky....

I very rarely call Sarah, so I tried to keep that on the DL when she mentioned that you never call. Maybe though, I've called her more than you, so in comparison, I looked good...??? To be perfectly honest though, she could always just call you if she wanted to know what you were up to. I'll ask her about it when Ryan and I go out there in September.

Oh Steve, no!!!

More and more perfectly good people are succumbing to the evil powers of MySpace. It's so sad.

Evil Powers

*LOL* Don't worry too much. I still much prefer LJ to MySpace, it's so much better. Maybe I can convert some of those people to LJ, right?

Re: Welcome to the dark side

I did, I did! *cowers in terror* Ha, ha! We'll see, I definitely like LJ a lot more at this point. Still, it's always fun to try something new!
