Brilliant fundraiser idea

Behold the inspiring conversation I had online last night:

ccopperpot: So what are you doing online when you could totally go panhandle! It's nicer out than yesterday!
spk1121: Filling out forms, man! And messing around with LJ. :-[
ccopperpot: Or maybe you could make a sign, "Will catalog and research for food."
spk1121: Hmm, that's an intriguing possibility...
ccopperpot: Or whatever kinky things you librarian types do behind the shelves. I don't want to know....
spk1121: *snorts* Oh, it's quite scandalous, I assure you!
ccopperpot: So that's what the Dewey Decimal System really stands for! I always thought that it sounded too over-wrought!
spk1121: You should see the Library of Congress girls in action. Oh, baby... *LOL*
ccopperpot: Hmm. Where do I get the calendar?
spk1121: I'll have to get to work on that, I'll let you know.
spk1121: That would actually be a very interesting idea for a fundraiser for the Library Student Organization at IUPUI!

I started thinking, why not?  You could take photos of the different girls behind their respective reference desks, put them in a calendar, and sell them at UL!  It's not like it would have to be anything risque or kinky, I think people would just find the idea of a "librarian calendar" to be an amusing oxymoron (due to the stereotypical librarian image).  We could show IUPUI that librarians can be studious and sexy!  Who's with me?  Anyway, it's a thought...

Current Mood: geeky geeky

That could work. Remember, the sexy librarian look is in. Seventeen said so.

This is the sort of thing that will get you smacked if you suggest it. Sorry, but that's just how it is. Men just can't suggest this sort of thing. Now, if another woman suggested it, that would be different. Heh.

Womanly virtue

Maybe it takes a guy's mind to think of some things. Like I said, it doesn't have to be anything smackworthy! I really was thinking of you, librarygal, and others sitting at work, having someone take your picture, and send it in to LSO. If it makes money for a good cause, who cares who suggested it? Heck, we could have library guys for all I care! I just think "library girls" would sell better. ;)

You aren't getting a calendar with my picture anytime in the near future, for any cause ;)

Re: Womanly virtue

spk1121, just so you know librarygal's comment right there just lost you over 50% of your sales, more if other people like her too ;-)

librarygal and the calendar

Maybe you could convince her to change her mind. Lord knows she won't listen to me!

Re: librarygal and the calendar

Hmmm...I suppose I could try, but I think you know my chances of success are on the low end. But, I do have a nice 10x zoom camera (and a nice telephoto lens on top of that), so if you show me what desk she works at sometime, and there's a decent hiding place somewhere in range... :-> And hey, my photography prices are inexpensive, especially considering that I'd turn around and reinvest in over 50% of your stock :-)

Re: librarygal and the calendar

I'll counter your smack with this picture ;-) If only I could (selectively) print out mental pictures, it would be so cool... ;-)

Anyway...I love that icon, it makes me laugh out loud every time you use it!

I need a get a Pro account and then find a mischevious-looking icon for (most of) my posts!

spk1121, I'm thinking it might be even harder to convince her at this point than I intoned above...that covert thing might just be the best plan. At the least, whether we do it or not, she'll always wonder whether a lens is lurking in the shadows... :->

Hey, if you sold the calendars sight-unseen you could get more sales by calling it the "librarian pinup calendar" but you might get some angry returns :-)

Re: librarygal and the calendar

Remember our conversation about the models in Vegas? I don't want to be on a calendar for the same reason you didn't want me to be a model ;)

Re: Womanly virtue

The *real* question, I guess, is whether you envisioned us wearing our normal work attire or...something else.

If it was normal work attire or normal work attire somewhat jazzed up, no problem. If you were thinking of "Librarians in Bikinins," then we will have to smack you.

Re: Womanly virtue

For the calendar to use as a LSO fundraiser and to sell on campus -- normal work attire (somewhat jazzed up optional)

For my own calendar that I would like to have -- "something else"

*LOL*

Re: Double-smacked

Hmmm...entertaining, and better you get smacked than me...I think I'll avoid offering my own thoughts on the idea for good reason ;-) I'd join in the head-bop for the heck of it though, except I can't dance and you don't want to see me try!
